Hobart City Mission provides a broad range of emergency support services to help people in Southern Tasmania get back on their feet.
Bob's Story
In 2023, Bob had been homeless for nearly six years, living under a bridge in Hobart with his blind dog.
His health was declining after multiple surgeries, and his daughter was in out-of-home care.
Through Hobart City Mission’s Housing Connect Program, Bob found hope.
Tania, a Key Development Coach, advocated tirelessly for him, pushing his case with housing providers. In November 2023, Bob moved into a two-bedroom home.
With support, he’s maintaining his tenancy and has begun regular visits with his daughter, now working toward full reunification. "Homelessness doesn’t discriminate,"
says Tania.
“We also helped him cover the costs of his bond and rent, and set up his new home with items from our warehouse, as he had nothing left.”

Housing Connect
In Hobart, there are on average 744 individuals who experience homelessness each year. By definition, this means 744 people who are living in boarding housing, supported accommodation, with friends and relatives, or in improvised dwellings or on the streets. As a result, Hobart City Mission understands the immediate need for Housing Support in Southern Tasmania.
Our Housing Support services provide assistance to those who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness, through Housing Connect.
Housing Connect assists people to secure public and community housing, private rental assistance, emergency accommodation and support services for Tasmanians. Housing Connect offers clients one access point for housing and support needs.
