Helping older men out of homelessness and into long-term housing

Coming Home provides long-term housing with dedicated support to help residents settle in, build a community, and work towards personal goals such as finding employment, pursuing further learning, reconnecting with family, and addressing health or substance issues.

Erik’s Story

Conflict and crisis – pretty much everyone we work with has come to the program with several challenges,” he says.

One resident, initially in constant conflict, eventually became a valued member of the community, helping others.

Despite struggles with navigating systems and trauma, the program empowers residents to make decisions.

“The people we support are the experts in their lives—not us,” Erik says, highlighting the rewarding nature of fostering understanding and personal growth.

“Support is about making people aware of their options and letting the individual choose what is best for them.

How We Assist

Coming Home provides a long-term home and supportive community for older men who have been experiencing homelessness. The Coming Home Program is a block of 12 one or two-bedroom units in Rokeby, Tasmania.

We aim to build a supportive place for people as they move out of homelessness. A support worker is on-site at Coming Home to help people settle in, and connect residents with important services and community groups.

Coming Home is a forever home. Many of the people who live at Coming Home have stayed at our other programs such as Safe Space and Mountain View.

The Coming Home program helps by:

 🏠 Giving older men a long-term home

💕 Creating a strong, caring community

🤝 Providing friendly support staff to help residents settle into their new home

How to Apply

A Housing Worker or other support provider will need to help you apply, by filling in an Expression of Interest form. (Please make sure you download the file, rather than viewing through your browser).
