Family Support
Hobart City Mission provides a broad range of Family Support services designed to strengthen and support families across Southern Tasmania.
Growing Together and Integrated Family Support Services help parents and children thrive in safe, stable, and nurturing environments. Small Steps is our program supporting young Mothers while DIY Dads provides support for Fathers and their children who might otherwise be at risk of homelessness.
Elisa's Story
100% of the mothers we support have experienced some form of trauma,” says Elisa, Program Leader of Small Steps.
“For most, it’s complex trauma, multiple traumas over different stages of their lives. We try to give them the experiences they should have had, consistent support, regardless of their choices, and supportive conversations. We’re there no matter what.”
Without the program, many mothers would stay in unsafe environments or risk losing custody of their children. Elisa notes, “Our work is about helping them make crucial decisions that lead to brighter, more stable futures.
“Recently, one mum came back to make a generous donation. She told us that without Small Steps, she didn't know where she would have ended up. Now, she’s in a healthy relationship, working, and renting privately, with dreams of owning her own home.”

Integrated Family Support Services
HCM operates the Integrated Family Support Services (IFSS), which provides in-home family support, for eligible families with children aged 0-18yrs, to assist vulnerable children, young people and families with a tailored approach to meeting individual and family needs.
IFSS also assists families with unborn children to obtain support, prior to the birth of a child.
IFSS aims to:

Ensure safety and development for children

Collaborate with parents to provide the needs of the children

Provide case management and coordination services

Aid existing community connections and supports

Work in partnership with community-based Child Protection workers if the serious need arises

Facilitate active engagement with families through outreach services
